Most anticipated films for the rest of 2019 (Oct-Dec)

This year has been crazy in terms of films. We’ve had some great releases and a ton of huge titles. But these next three months are stacked with interesting releases. This are the ones I’m most interested in. These aren’t in order of anticipation. Let’s get started with the one I’m most excited for.

“Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?”

Joker is less than two weeks away and my hype levels are through the roof. I couldn’t be more hyped at this point. Everything is pointing at it being something exceptional. The Joker is my favourite fictional character and this new interpretation looks to be one of the best we’ve ever gotten. It’s hard to follow what Heath Ledger did, that performance is just perfect. But Joaquin Phoenix looks to have created something special with this character. Todd Phillips hasn’t had the best track record but this goes against anything he’s ever done in terms of tone and style. From what we’ve heard, it’s meant to be violent and disturbing. I can’t wait. Even if it’s bad, we’ll all be able to say that Phoenix gave an Oscar Worthy performance.

Zombieland Double Tap

“It’s time to nut up or shut up”

I’m cautious. It could be bad. It could disappoint. The director’s last work was Venom which was underwhelming. But, I’m still hopeful. The first trailer look as fun and insane as it should. I only watched the first one a few months ago but I absolutely loved it. I want this to be good. It’s got a great cast and looks to be crazier than the first. It probably won’t be as good as the first, but I just want it to be good. At least.

Terminator Dark Fate

“My name is Sarah Connor. August 29th, 1997 was supposed to be Judgment Day. But I changed the future. Saved 3,000,000,000 lives. Enough of a résumé for you?”

Again, I’m cautious and hopeful. I’m not a die hard Terminator fan but I love the first two films. I haven’t actually seen the last three but from what I gather, they’re bad. This however looks interesting. Tim Miller is a good director and James Cameron is back to produce. It’s going back to the roots of the franchise and wiping those disappointing entries. Could we finally get another good terminator film? I hope so.

Last Christmas

“You’re made of everything you do”

This is a weird choice I know, but this film has caught my interest. If there’s too things I love, it’s Christmas and Romance. A new Christmas rom com set to George Michael music from the director of Bridesmaids starring Emilia Clark sounds interesting. It could suck, Paul Fieg did do Ghostbusters and the trailer wasn’t perfect but it looks nice. Based on premise alone, I’m intrigued.

Ford V Ferrari

“We’re lighter, we’re faster, and if that don’t work, we’re nastier.”

This looks promising. It looks like a crowd pleasing, entertaining Oscar contender. James Mangold is great director, he did Logan which i love. There’s two great leads in Christian Bale and Matt Damon. It’s getting some positive reactions from festivals and apparently has some incredible racing scenes. I’m interested.

Frozen 2

“We always feared Elsa’s powers were too much for this world. Now we must hope that they’re enough”

As obnoxious as the hype got for the first film, I still love it. It’s an excellent animated film that I’ve watched countless times. This sequel seems to be taking a new direction. It looks much darker and more mystical. I can’t wait to see the direction they take, I can’t wait to see these characters again. The animation looks stunning and it could give Toy Story 4 a run for best animated film of the year.

Knives Out

“This is a twisted web, and we are not finished untangling it, not yet.”

This looks like FUN. An absolutely stellar cast, a great director at the helm, a new twist on a classic premise. I can’t wait. The reactions have been extremely positive. There’s going to be so many twists and turns. Rian Johnson always brings originality to his films so I can imagine this will be no different. Like I said before, it looks fun. That’s all.

A Beautiful day in the Neighbourhood

“Hello Neighbour”

The film that emotionally impacted me the most last year was “Won’t you be my neighbour?”. The documentary on Fred Rogers was so wholesome and eye opening. I never watched Mr Rogers as a kid but since I watched that documentary, I’ve been in love with this man. He was the nicest man in the industry. Now we’re getting a movie about him with Tom Hanks in the role. I couldn’t think of anyone better to play him. It’s not a typical biopic about Mr Rogers but it’s the story a guy who was heavily impacted by him. It’s like a companion piece to the documentary. It looks heartwarming and sweet. I can’t wait.

Jumanji The Next Level

“Are you having a heart attack? Breathe! Breathe! His whole left side is shutting down!”

What a surprise Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle was. It was a lot of fun and very successful meaning a sequel of course. This one is mixing things up with one of the best twists of the year. In this one, Dwayne Johnson plays Danny Devito. Let that sink in. The roles are mixed and the game is updated meaning a new adventure. We also have Kevin Hart playing Danny Glover which from the trailer already looks funny. It could be a flop but it looks as good if not slightly better than the first. When I say first I don’t mean the original Jumanji, that one will always be superior.

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

“No one’s ever really gone”

The final chapter of the Skywalker saga and the last chapter of this new Sequel Trilogy. I love The Force Awakens and I’m on the side of people who really like The Last Jedi. I’ve always been on board with this new trilogy and this next one looks to be going all out. Abrams is back to restore the series back to his original vision meaning there’s going to be answers to questions he set up, a whole load of fan service and a few twists and turns. The trailers looks great, it looks epic and promises big things. Count me in.

Little Women

“This is Meg, Amy, Beth and Jo”

Greta Gerwig is a great director, she proved that with Lady Bird. She’s back with an adaptation of the classic novel. The cast is amazing. Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothee Chalamet, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep. I’ve not read the book or seen any previous adaptation but the talent behind it and the trailer has me excited. It looks really great.

Jojo Rabbit

“You’re not a Nazi Jojo, you’re a 10 year old kid.”

Taika Waititi plays Hitler, nuff said. This just look amazing. Such a unique story, an all star cast, the right blend of comedy and heart and room for a lot of creativity. The reactions have been very positive, both trailers were great. I think the UK is getting it late but I hope to see it as soon as I can. It’s my most anticipated after Joker. There’s not much to say, it’s just Taika Waititi.

I missed a lot of films but this next few months is so stacked and these are the ones I’m most excited for. Keep your eye out for these releases. There’s some really great films still to come.
